Hamilton spoke about overtaking Russell on the last lap of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver, who spent his last race for the German team, managed to break through to the lead at the Abu Dhabi stage after starting from 16th position. And on the last lap Lewis managed to catch up and overtake his partner.
George piloted very well, although it is clear that he started much higher than me. So it was very difficult to make up that 14 second gap, George completed his laps at a good pace.
So I was required to perform perfectly - I had to demonstrate a very high pace lap after lap, as was the case in Las Vegas. I started to make a strong comeback and then stopped - so I needed confidence that I would continue to at least reduce the gap a little.
And I really caught up with George only on the last lap. And I thought: I have to do this. It`s now or never. And I went to overtake.
It`s not that I lack confidence - I`ve always been confident. But yes, it was nice to finish with a strong race, which I spent under pressure and without making mistakes, " Hamilton said.
